Per huone, per yö, 2 henkeä, 2 erillistä sänkyä (n. 20% kalliimpi kuin parivuode), ei lemmikkejä (niistä menee lisämaksu), maksuton wi-fi, jonkinlainen aamiainen (taso vaihteli suuresti), kupongeilla tyypillisesti 20% alennus listahinnasta (kuponkien lisähyöty: oli jokin selkeä kohde, jonka voi laittaa navigaattoriin eikä nuhraannu aikaa etsiskelyyn), kuponkeja saa pysähdyspaikoilla ja huoltamoilla olevista maksuttomista hotellikuponkilehdistä. Emme siis varanneet huonetta etukäteen kuin New Yorkista ja San Franciscosta jotta meillä säilyi vapaus valita päivittäin haluamamme reitti ja aikataulu.

Per room, very basic motels/hotels, per night, 2 persons, twin beds = two separate beds (around 20% more expensive than with a double bed), no pets (typically an extra charge for them), free wi-fi, some kind of breakfast (huge variations in quality); NOTE FOR A ROAD TRIP: with coupons you typically get around 20% discount from the list prices and you also get a destination address to use in you navigator - get free coupon magazines from resting areas and gas stations. We reserved the room in advance only in New York and San Francisco to maintain the flexibility in our route an schedule.

Chicago, Illinois: Holiday Inn 185 USD (kävelymatka järven rannasta, sijainti lisäsi hintaa, en ehkä menisi uudelleen) [a walking distance from the lake may explain the high price, so and so, perhaps I would not recommend that hotel due the price]
San Francisco, California: Amsterdam Hostel 103 USD (mukava ja siisti, loistava sijainti, hostel = makuusaleja, mutta on ihan hotellihuoneitakin, menisin ehdottomasti uudelleen) [nice and relaxed atmoshere, good and pleasant service, excellent location, hostel = dormitories but also separate rooms with own shower, definitely recommended]
Los Angeles, California: Value Inn 90 USD (sijainti Sunset Boulevard, mutta kaupunginosa Little Armenia, hieman nuhjuinen, etsisin ehkä jonkun lähempää metroasemaa, mikä toisi pari kymppiä hintaan lisää) [located in Sunset Boulevard but the area was Little Armenia, a bit worn out rooms, perhaps now I would choose another motel/hotel not so far from the subway station - that would add some 20 USD to the price]
New York City, The Lexington Hotel (hyvä perushotelli, hyvä sijainti, menisin ehkä uudelleen, outo yksityiskohta: kylyphuoneen katto oli tehty kumista) 240 [a good basic hotel, good location, perhaps I would go there again; an odd detail: the roof of the bathroom was made of rubber]
